Addressed to Alden

Hi Alden,

So much newness can be astonishing, delightful, intriguing, and maybe a bit terrifying. You are facing newness every day mostly with a smile, but deep in your heart, as with every person there are moments of uncertainty and ‘what ifs’. When Jesus born in the stable to Mary and stepfather, Joseph, there were many, many uncertainties ahead.

Even in the field near Bethlehem, there was fear and uncertainty. When the angel appeared and the glory of the Lord surrounded the shepherds who were watching their sheep, panic nearly set in! But the angel spoke and told them not to be afraid. The angels were there to bring goooooood news of GREAT JOY, not to bring death or dismay. The good news was for all men ….a SAVIOR FOR ALL MEN. Then more and more angels were there singing praise to God. Would you feel afraid? Awed? Excited? Energized? All the above?

Alden, keep in mind that angels are of incalculable benefit to you. Hebrews 1:14 You can’t see them but a host of angels, far too many for us to count are in God’s command to bring good news and protection or to carry out wrath. I love to imagine an angel watching over me. And I love to imagine an angel watching over you as you navigate….(quickly?) over roads familiar and unfamiliar.

Luke 2:9 And behold, an angel of the Lord stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were greatly afraid.

I hope you will pray, “Thank you, Wonderful God, for sending a Savior for all of us. And thank you that you have ministering spirits for us!!”
